WHY TERRAPIN?
Terrapin Expeditions is a unique outdoor adventure and leadership camp offering 14- and 24-day expeditions for teens, age 14 -17. We are owned and operated entirely by Washingtonians. Many other camps come here, but we live here. We take our Expedition Teams to our favorite spots in Washington – places we’ve visited before and know well. Each location has been selected because we love going there – and we think you’ll love it too.

Expedition Planning. Because we live in Washington, we visit each area that we take an expedition through. We choose those locations because we love them. We also plan our expeditions to minimize the amount of time we spend in a van (we try to limit it to less than two hours per trip) – and maximize our time in the wilderness! After all, the less time we have to spend in the van, the greater time we get to play.
Specialist Guides. During the sea kayaking, rock climbing and whitewater rafting portions of our expeditions, we work with commercial guides and guide services who are specialists in these activities and regions. This gives us a greater participant/adult ratio and allows us to utilize their additional expertise. The guides that we work with are carefully chosen to provide us with a safe and exciting adventure.

Multi-Sport Structure. Because we engage in multiple outdoor activities, our expeditions provide Team members the opportunity to try things they may not have tried before. This allows each Team member to excel at skills they are comfortable with and to learn skills that may be entirely new.
Physical Challenge. Our expeditions are physically demanding. We ask that each Team member keep this in mind and prepare before arriving for the first day of the trip. Often, our Team members already play sports or engage in other physical fitness programs. We encourage this because being fit will help you to enjoy the trip.
Personal Challenge. Working hard at a new skill can be exhausting and frustrating – but rewarding. Our Expedition Teams learn to work together and support each other from the first day so that each individual can be successful and meet his or her personal goals.

Grow
Community and Personal Growth. It’s no coincidence that our goals begin with forging dynamic communities. At Terrapin, we create our small Expedition Teams with community in mind. Strong communities result in personal growth, leadership skills and team-building skills that stay with our Team members for years to come.
We have found that although it is often the adrenaline-inducing activities that first excite our Team members, it is the friendships they form that stay with them. Terrapin Expeditions is not just an adventure camp. Our goals of forging a strong community and building leadership skills aren’t just lip-service. We invest energy in creating tight Expedition Teams that trust each other, look out for one another, and challenge each other to become better leaders.
